Jennifer Gutierrez, of Lincoln, was appointed to the Commission by Governor Dave Heineman in 2006. Owner of JAG Consulting, Inc., Ms. Gutierrez is a Cultural Competency Strategist with over a decade of experience in journalism, public relations and international communications.
Raised in Omaha, Ms. Gutierrez is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Nebraska Lincoln. She holds Bachelors degrees in journalism and Spanish, and a Masters degree in political science with a specialization in international relations. She lives in Lincoln with her husband, Juan Carlos, and their four children.
Ms. Gutierrez worked for the Guatemalan Development Foundation (FUNDESA) in Guatemala City, Guatemala where she was responsible for public relations, publication development, and media relations. She acted as FUNDESA’s communications liaison to the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala as well as local media, the Associated Press and Voice of America. Upon relocating to the United States, Gutierrez worked with a Columbus, Ohio based public relations firm where she implemented strategic planning, media, and publication projects for corporate, public affairs and health care clients. Ms. Gutierrez founded JAG Consulting, Inc. after relocating to Lincoln and specializes in work with Nebraska’s Hispanic market. Select clients include Pinnacle Bank, the Nebraska Army National Guard, the Nebraska Secretary of State’s Office, the State of Nebraska, Lancaster County and Southeast Community College.
Ms. Gutierrez is a past commissioner and vice president of the Lincoln-Lancaster County Women's Commission, past vice president of the Board for the Hispanic Community Center, a member of Lincoln Friends of Foreign Students, and an Education Surrogate Parent for the Lincoln Public Schools.
